I think I've been targeted by a lottery scam - how do I know if it's a scam or not?
Unfortunately, lottery scams are becoming increasingly common around the world..
Lottery scams work by advising people that they have won money in a lottery when they have not. The purpose is to either extract a fee to collect the non-existent "winnings", or obtain confidential financial details.
For more information on lottery scams targeting Australian consumers see the NSW Office of Fair Trading website.

If you receive advice claiming to be from NSW Lotteries that you have won a huge cash prize and you haven't purchased a ticket, it is definitely a scam! We recommend that you ignore it or raise the matter with your local consumer protection agency or police.
