Wollongong man comes home to $2 million answering machine message
A 54-year-old Wollongong man came home from work yesterday evening to a $2 million answering machine message.
Despite only having a name and number to go on, his first words to the NSW Lotteries official who left the message were, “Don’t tell me I’m the guy who’s won $2 million in Lotto”.
“I heard on the radio that they were looking for someone who had bought an entry at Corrimal Court Newsagency and that there was a message on their answering machine from NSW Lotteries,” the lucky winner said.
“When I got inside the door the light was flashing on the phone and the thought did cross my mind that it might be about winning $2 million in Lotto, but I thought to myself, ‘No, I couldn’t have, I couldn’t be that lucky’.”
When the details of his winning ticket were confirmed, the winner said that he would be taking early retirement.
“I’ll be giving up work tomorrow. I’ve been working part-time since I injured myself in the building industry a few years ago, now I don’t need to work at all,” he said.
The winner plans to buy a new house and help his family.
“I’ll buy a little house down the coast with a boat ramp, and then I’ll be settling back and taking it easy,” he said.
In the meantime the winner plans to celebrate with a “few cold beers”.
The winner picked up the $2 million prize in Wednesday night’s Lotto draw.
