A Hunter man took some convincing this morning that a phone call from a NSW Lotteries official advising him that he had won $3 million in Powerball was not a prank.
“You have got to be kidding me. This must be a hoax call, this just cannot be real,” the 53-year-old father of three exclaimed.
“I don’t believe you, honestly is this fair dinkum? I don’t know what to say.
“I always thought to myself that one of these days I’ll win, but I don’t think I ever thought I’d win $3 million, I just can’t believe it,” the part-time worker admitted.
“I don’t know where to start, I’ll invest the money, but this brings me right back to the drawing board, I never planned for having $3 million.
“I can’t wait to tell my wife, she is going to have a heart attack when I tell her,” the winner added.
Rutherford’s Powerball winner purchased his $3 million winning entry from Rutherford Newsagency at Shop 9, North Mall, Rutherford in the NSW Hunter Valley region.
“Congratulations to the winner, I’m happy that we sold the winning ticket to a local,” Yan Zhang from Rutherford Newsagency said this morning.
“We have only been here 18 months and this is the second millionaire we have made in the area. It is hard to believe that I handed over a little piece of paper to a customer that turned out to be worth $3 million,” Mr Zhang added.
The winning numbers in last night’s $3 Powerball draw were 15, 7, 10, 1 and 38 with the all important Powerball number 43.
