Trip to the chemist a prescription for $2.5 million Lotto win – one of four NSW winners in Saturday Lotto’s $20 million draw

A spur of the moment trip to a chemist yesterday morning has helped a syndicate of five office workers from Western Sydney score $2.5 million in Lotto.

There were four winning entries from NSW in last night’s $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw, purchased at Campbelltown and South Grafton, along with a network syndicate of 12 members, and an internet entry.

Campbelltown

A 42-year-old Campbelltown woman had already purchased her weekly Lotto entry on behalf of her workplace syndicate of five office workers in a Western Sydney food processing company when she made another last minute purchase on Saturday morning.

“It was just a spur of the minute thing when I popped into the chemist on Saturday morning that I decided to check our entries, which I normally do at the beginning of the week. We had won $11 in Powerball so I decided to reinvest it in Lotto, and that was the ticket that won $2.5 million,” the delighted winner told a NSW Lotteries official this morning.

“The people at work won’t believe it when I tell them we’ve each won $500,000. It feels pretty damned good to break that kind of news, I’ll think they’ll be speechless, just like I was when I first got the call from NSW Lotteries,” she said.

The syndicate leader said that the group had been buying $50 worth of tickets each week since last December.

“I’d occasionally ask who wants to be in the big Lotto draws and I suggested we all put in $10 every week. We’ve won about $400 so far and reinvested all our winnings, including, luckily, the money we won on Powerball,” she said.

She plans to use her share of the massive windfall to pay off “the mortgage and cars”.

“We all discussed at work that if ever we won Lotto we wouldn’t stop working, because we all enjoy our jobs. It just makes life comfortable, really, really comfortable. Now that I’m breathing again, it’s certainly going to make life a whole lot easier,” she added.

The winning entry was generating lots of excitement at Market Fair Newsagency, Campbelltown, where Gay Craddock said she was “wrapped” to have sold the winning ticket.

“We’re so glad it’s gone to a local, hopefully the winner is one of our regular customers,” she said.

South Grafton

NSW Lotteries is on the lookout for a mystery player who purchased a winning Saturday Lotto entry worth $2.5 million at Newman’s Newsagency, South Grafton.

As the entry was not purchased using a NSW Lotteries Players Club Card, officials have no way of contacting the ticket’s owner until he or she comes forward to claim the prize.

Network Syndicate

Another Saturday Lotto first division win of $2.5 million was shared by a network syndicate of 12 members, with each member picking up close to $211,000 in total divisional prize money.

The winning syndicate shares were purchased from NSW Lotteries agencies at: Bligh Park, Burwood, Chester Hill, Dickson (in the ACT), Harden, Hornsby (two winning shares), Pagewood, Parramatta, Tamworth, Thornton, and Wollongong.

Network syndicates allow players to share the cost of a large systems entry without having to form their own syndicate. Entries are sold separately at different agencies across the 1,600 in the NSW Lotteries retail network.

Internet entry

The fourth $2.5 million winning Saturday Lotto entry was sold over the internet through nsw.ozlotteries.com, the exclusive online agent for NSW Lotteries. The winner will be contacted directly with the good news.

Saturday Lotto’s $20 million first division prize was shared by eight winning entries nationally, each winning $2.5 million. In addition to the four winning NSW entries, two winning tickets were sold by the Victorian-based lottery operator Tattersall’s, and one each in Queensland and Western Australia.

The winning numbers from Saturday night’s $20 million Lotto Superdraw were 21, 4, 42, 43, 35 and 30, with the supplementary numbers 45 and 31.
