Sydney’s $5 million Powerball win is a Halloween mystery
A shroud of Halloween mystery surrounds the identity of the Sydney winner who picked up $5 million in Powerball last night.
The winner, who purchased their ticket in the inner-city suburb of Pyrmont, is not a member of Players Club, so they will likely spend Halloween totally unaware that they are a multi-millionaire.
“All NSW Lotteries can do at this stage is to encourage players to check their Powerball entries and hope that the winner gets the message,” NSW Lotteries Communications Manager John Vineburg said this morning.
“Our experience dealing with breaking the news of big wins tells us that this lucky Powerball winner is likely to have some trouble believing their good fortune. However, for them, this Halloween will definitely be a treat, not a trick,” Mr Vineburg joked.
The winning entry was sold from Central Pyrmont Newsagency at 149 Miller Street, Pyrmont. Newsagency worker, John Organ said that he was looking forward to telling customers that they had sold the $5 million Powerball.
“It’s wonderful news, of course, any win is great but a first division prize in Powerball is fantastic. A $5 million win, wow,” Mr Organ said.
“Customers always jokingly ask us to sell them the winning ticket and this time we have. It’s hard to believe someone has a ticket that is now worth $5 million and that ticket passed through our hands.
“A lot of people come into the shop to check their tickets, as this win is unregistered I will be asking everyone to bring their tickets in for checking. I’m really looking forward to telling our customers that we sold the $5 million Powerball win.”
The winning numbers in last night’s $5 million Powerball draw were 20, 2, 45, 11, and 10, with Powerball number 45.
