Eight NSW Lotto winners score $1.6 million each - among 18 winners sharing $30 million nationally
NSW Lotto players kicked off the New Year by scoring eight of the 18 first division prizes won nationally in last night’s $30 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw.
The NSW winning entries, each worth more than $1.6 million, were sold in the Sydney suburbs of Chatswood, Darling Harbour, Dulwich Hill, Fairfield West, Manly and Mulgoa, at Redhead in Newcastle, and as a 20-share online syndicate.
Chatswood
Johno Soegimin, owner of Supanews Chatswood at Chatswood Chase, where the winning $1.6 million Lotto ticket was sold, is convinced that their good luck is down to their new premises.
“We moved to new premises a few months back and it has been so lucky for us. Selling a $1.6 million win in the $30 million Lotto draw is a great start to the New Year for us and of course for the lucky winner,” Mr Soegimin said.
The winning ticket is not registered with NSW Lotteries Players Club, so Lotto players in the area are advised to check their own tickets very carefully to see if they are a millionaire.
Darling Harbour
Although the owner of the winning ticket sold at Darling Harbour is not a Players Club member, Cemile Tehniklioglu from World News Centre, is determined to find the winner and give them the good news.
“Being situated in Darling Harbour we get a lot of interstate and international tourists coming in to buy a ticket while they are in town, so there is just no telling who it could be. We will put up signs and tell everyone that we see to check their tickets, we want to find our lucky winner and give them the best news of their life – that they have won Lotto,” Ms Tehniklioglu said.
Dulwich Hill
A $1.6 million winning Lotto entry, sold at Dulwich Hill Newsagency at 404 New Canterbury Road, Dulwich Hill, is not registered to a NSW Lotteries Players Club member and so NSW Lotteries do not have any contact information for the winner.
“As soon as word gets out that the ticket is not registered with Players Club and it was sold from this shop there will be queues of people wanting to check their tickets,” Mr Minh Nguyen from Dulwich Hill Newsagency said this morning.
Fairfield West
As Fairfield West’s latest Lotto millionaire is not a member of the NSW Lotteries Players Club, NSW Lotteries officials have no way of contacting the lucky winner with the good news.
All Saturday Lotto players in the area are advised to check their tickets very carefully as it could be worth more than $1.6 million.
The winning entry was purchased from Fairvale Newsagency at Shop 3, 338 Hamilton Road, Fairfield West.
Manly
A day trip to Manly scored a Greystanes man a $1.6 million winning Lotto ticket.
The 69-year-old man was taking visiting friends to Manly for the day when he purchased the winning ticket from Humphrey’s Newsagency at 60 The Corso, Manly.
“My stomach is jumping, I’m full of nerves, I can’t believe this,” the man told the NSW Lotteries official who broke news of his windfall this morning.
“I checked my Powerball ticket when I was in Manly and won $24, so I used the money to buy this ticket. I can’t believe I’ve become a millionaire just before my seventieth birthday later this month.
“We’ve battled financially all our lives, the first thing I’m going to do is buy a new car. I’ll let the news sink in before I think about what else to do,” the winner added.
Chris Humphrey from Humphrey’s Newsagency said it was “fantastic news”.
“We love to hear that someone who bought their ticket from our shop has had a big win. It’s always great to sell a big one and even better to get one this early in the year,” Mr Humphrey added.
Mulgoa
Although the winner who purchased their winning entry in the Western Sydney suburb of Mulgoa is a NSW Lotteries Players Club member, the winner was not contactable by telephone this morning. A letter will be mailed to the winner to inform them of their new millionaire status.
The winning entry was purchased from Mulgoa Newsagency at Shop 10 Mulgoa Shopping Centre, Mulgoa.
“This is the biggest prize we have ever sold, so it is a very happy New Year for us and the winner. I hope that there are more big wins on the way for my customers,” Mr Sung Hoon Kim, owner of Mulgoa Newsagency said this morning.
Redhead
A 83-year-old Redhead woman was close to tears this morning when a NSW Lotteries official told her that she is now more than $1.6 million better off after picking up a share in Saturday Lotto’s $30 million prize pool.
“I’ve never won anything before and I never expected this. I never thought I would ever be a millionaire, it’s my husband who always said he’d win the Lotto one day,” the Redhead pensioner said.
“I only buy Lotto so that I could help my children if I won, I can’t wait to tell them this news. I’ve never had much and the pension doesn’t go very far, so I can’t tell you how much this will help us,” the winner added.
She purchased her winning Saturday Lotto entry from Redhead Newsagency at 117 Cowlishaw Street, Redhead.
Network Syndicate
Another Saturday Lotto first division win of $1.6 million was shared by a network syndicate of 20 members, with each member picking up $86,000 in total divisional prize money.
The winning syndicate shares were purchased from NSW Lotteries agencies at: Bankstown, Bondi Beach, Dubbo, Eastlakes, Hurstville, Lane Cove, Mascot, Macquarie Fields, McMahons Point, Mona Vale (two shares) Mount Pritchard, North Strathfield, Salamander Bay, St Marys, South Penrith, Wentworthville, Wanniassa and Woden (in the ACT), and Yagoona West.
Network syndicates allow players to share the cost of a large systems entry without having to form their own syndicate. Entries are sold separately at different agencies across the 1,600 in the NSW Lotteries retail network.
The winning numbers from Saturday night’s $30 million Lotto Superdraw were 12, 5, 42, 16, 34 and 33, with the supplementary numbers 32 and 30.
